John McKinsey

Since 1999, John McKinsey has been in private practice focusing on energy, commercial, regulatory and environmental law. He has acted as a lead counsel for the siting of major power projects in California before the California Energy Commission and other state environmental and land use agencies as well as for advising independent power producers on western energy and power regulatory matters.

John regularly writes and speaks on energy policy and law. He has taught Energy Law at UC Davis School of Law since 2011 and also currently teaches contract law.

McKinsey gained significant applied science knowledge and skills while serving in the United States Navy on submarines as a nuclear power plant operator and supervisor and leading electrician. He graduated cum laude with his B.A. from California State University Sacramento in Economics and received his J.D. from UC Davis School of Law.
